What is the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®)?

The Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) is a nationally recognized certification granted by the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education (AFCPE®). It is designed for professionals who help clients navigate the complex intersection of financial mechanics and human behavior.

To earn this mark, a professional must:

• Education: Complete comprehensive coursework covering everything from debt management and retirement planning to the psychology of money.
• Examination: Pass a rigorous national exam.
• Experience: Complete 1,000 hours of documented financial counseling experience.
• Ethics: Adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and complete ongoing continuing education.
